Peace, Love, Scrub

A little bit about Hippie Love – Peace, Love, Scrub and the owner Melissa Simoes:

The name was chosen because we wanted to make all natural products. I also wanted a way to inspire people. So that’s where the phrase about all natural ingredients for your skin infused with inspiration for your soul, came from… every full size product has an inspiration quote on the packaging… because you never know who needs to hear some kind words.   Originally I loved peace love scrub but it was taken on FB where we started so I went with “Hippie Love” – I love things with a hippy/boho vibe and we try to bring it back to basics / natural. We just started in October doing local events and craft fairs, although I’ve been in direct sales for over 4 yrs (so the events & selling aren’t new to me, but creating is). I am a full time working mom and this is my side gig but I’m pouring my heart and soul into this business…I find creating to be therapeutic! I love all natural products but they can cost a fortune so we try to offer them at reasonable prices. We are launching a pet line coming soon, starting with dog lotion bars.
Hippie Love – Peace, Love, Scrub makes natural skincare using 3 major ingredients: coconut oil, beeswax & fragrance oil/s.
I was sent the lotion bar in the scent Relax.  Relax consists of coconut oil, beeswax, lavender, pine, jasmine, vanilla and light musk oils.  The scent is lovely and uplifting and does exactly what it is supposed to do which is calming and relaxing.
How to use:
You place the entire bar in your hands to warm up, using the coconut oil as it melts to rub all over (like you would after putting a blob of lotion in your hands if that makes sense).
How to store:
comes in a bag to store.
I met Melissa is a networking group on Facebook and she was actually looking for reviewers to review her lotion bar.  I approached her and told her I was relatively new with blogging and new to doing product reviews and would love the opportunity to review her product.  She was so kind to respond right away and even though I am in Canada and she is in the USA she agreed to send me the product for review.  She was patient as the product took 1 month to arrive to me and when we almost thought it could be loss in mail land  she was ready and eager to send me another but finally it arrived.

I am so delighted to be given this opportunity to review my first product.  I am happy and grateful that she trusted me to give my honest opinion about her product.  I love skincare especially natural skincare and was excited to receive the lotion bar and try it out.

So I received the Relax lotion bar on Thursday but had a slight fever so I wanted to wait until the weekend to use it as I didn’t want the fever to speed up the time it takes to melt into my hand as I wanted my review to be based on accurate findings.  Yeah I’m a geek like that.  LOL.
Saturday I tried the lotion bar as planned.  I could smell the fragrance from outside the bag which made me anticipate using the product more.  However I am highly sensitive to strong scents and the scent of the Relax bar was subtle and not over powering.  I found the scent to be calming and relaxing just as it said it would.

I placed piece of it in my hands and began to rub my hands together gently.  The texture of the lotion bar as it melts into the palms of the hand is creamy and a cross between a balm and a butter but not greasy.  It looks like a soap bar so it is a cool concept that it is a lotion bar.  This was the first time I tried a lotion bar.

I have very sensitive skin and is careful as to what I put on my body/skin.  I have hypothyroidism so my skin is very dry especially in the winter months.  Over the last year I developed eczema on the back of my hands mainly although I do have a bit of it by my elbows and by my ankles but not as much as my hands. The Relax lotion bar was lovely and seemed to condition my skin well without using a lot of the product.  I am muslim and makes ablution before my prayer so even after I had been in water and dried my skin my hands were still conditioned and soft.  I do pray 5 times a day and so I make ablution 5 times as well and being in the water constantly dries out my skin more.  I used the lotion bar before bed as well and my skin felt conditioned in the morning.  What I love about this bar is it is so easy to use and store so it is perfect for your purse or desk or even for by your bed to use nightly.  Regular lotion tends to come out in blobs and sometimes you have the dried crust from the last application.  Sometime too with regular lotion I squeeze/pump too much out and have to find places just to distribute it without wasting or I get my hubby to stick out his hands to get rid of the excess.  I really like the Relax bar as the size is perfect and you use how much you want and it is not greasy.   It left my skin and the eczema patches smooth and conditioned.

Again I was glad to be given the opportunity to review the Relax lotion bar.  I am quite pleased with the product and would definitely use it again.  I would recommend this product to family and friends. I would buy this product.  The cost of the product/s is reasonably priced. In fact the cost is much lower than that of businesses like Lush or The Body Shop.  I would totally support WAHM/MOM/WOMEN owned businesses and buy from them instead of larger corporations where you are just a dollar sign.  It was a pleasure to get to know Melissa.  I love the name of her company and loves the inspiration quotes that come with each product.  I would love to review other products by Hippie Love – Peace, Love, Scrub

The Mystery of the Lost Recipe and The Mystery of the Lost Uniforms #books #childrensbooks #IamReading

Book reviews are always one of my favorite reviews to do for authors. I love finding out about each author and their interests. Children’s books especially intrigue me as I am a licensed child care provider, but, when I was contacted to review a couple books about healthy eating AND exercise I was all in. I am always looking for new ways to incorporate this concept to the children at an early age.

While I was waiting for the books to arrive I did a little research about the books and the author that I was about to review. Jerome Jones is a teacher and a coach to school aged children from elementary to high school. While teaching in Utah he was inspired to start writing children stories. “The Mystery of the Lost Recipe” and “The Mystery of the Lost Uniforms” were written while Mr. Jones taught a 4th grade class about nutrition and exercise.

On a Thursday morning while putting my sons, Jayden and Gavin, on the bus I remembered that I had completely forgotten to get the mail Wednesday afternoon. I walked to the mailbox and there was a manilla envelope address to me. When I opened it I was absolutely excited. Every time I get a new review and it arrives it’s like Christmas for me. I opened the package and was amazed at the quality of the books that Mr. Jones had created. Not only had he sent his two hardcover books, he also sent stickers for the kids. My sons each took one before they got a chance to read the book (remember they were waiting to board the bus) and was excited to tell their friends about the new story adventure they would surely go on when they got home.

The Mystery of the Lost Recipe

After my sons got on the bus to go to school I decided that I would do a little experiment to see how well the different age groups would take to the books. When I was doing research I saw Mr. Jones was a elementary to high school coach and teacher, so I thought I would see how well my early childhood children would like the books as well as my elementary aged sons.

While waiting for my daycare children to arrive I was flipping through the book. The illustrations were amazing! Jose Galeano did an impeccable job creating bright and vibrant illustrations to go with Mr. Jone’s books.

My daycare children arrived and were excited to hear that we were going to change up the lesson plans for the day and learn about Abby and Tommy, the main characters and mystery solvers in the book. During story time I read to the children, “The Mystery of the Lost Recipe.” The ages of the children are 1, 2, and 3 who were attending care at the time.

I started reading the book and was honestly expecting the children to eventually lose interest (not meaning this in a mean way, just because the children are so young and the books are pretty long) and move away from the circle. I was quickly proved wrong, even the 1 year old stayed to hear the story of Abby and Tommy solving the lost recipe issue. The children actually stopped me part way through to tell me they loved lasagna and blueberries on their waffles sounded yummy. After I was done reading the book, the 2 and 3 year old wanted to take the book and read it again!

Later on that day my sons got home and were excited to go on a new adventure and find out about these new books that they told their friends about with their new stickers (which are plastered on their planner they are required to take back and forth to the teacher daily). Gavin started first and with help read through “The Mysteries of the Lost Recipes” and grabbed “The Mysteries of the Lost Uniform” without missing a beat. Jayden was there to help him read and finish the second book but both of the boys literally devoured both of the books. I was very excited to see how anxious they were to find out what happens in both of the books. Both Jayden and Gavin give “The Mysteries” books a big thumbs up.

If you are interested in checking out these books for your children (or maybe you run a daycare too!) I would highly recommend them to anyone. These books are bright, colorful, and very well written to keep the children engaged and learning. The next day at daycare we had blueberries for a snack and the kids continued to talk about Abby and Tommy and what other mysteries they might solve.

This project is quite impressive. The whole process is very ingenious in that marketing is being done for a variety of different companies at a minimum expense for the companies. When you purchase one of the boxes you are provided with samples of those products.
