My Homemade Granola Bar Recipe #TastyTuesday

My kids love granola bars…even my daughter who is picky about EVERYTHING! But when I read the list of ingredients on most store bought granola bars I do not feel love at all! Many granola bar ingredient lists include: corn syrup (in one form or another), sugar, and caramel color. All of which I prefer to avoid! What’s a mom to do?! Well I did a little research, tried a few recipes and then came up with one that both fit my list of “better for them” ingredients AND that my kiddos liked! It’s easy peasy with just a handful of ingredients! Try it…let me know what you think…then tweak it for your family and share with me!

Homemade Granola Bars

2 cups organic rolled oats

1/2 cup shredded coconut

1/2 cup organic honey

2 Tbs peanut butter

2 Tbs flax seed

1/3 cup raisins

1 tsp vanilla

1/8 tsp salt

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease a 9-inch square baking dish with butter. Spread the oats and coconut evenly across a baking sheet. Toast oats and coconut in preheated oven until browned, about 10 minutes; transfer to a large mixing bowl. Add flax seeds and raisins to mixing bowl too. Mix honey, peanut butter, vanilla extract, and salt in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Cook and stir until smooth. Pour the honey mixture over the oats/coconut mixture; stir to coat. Spread the mixture evenly into the buttered baking dish. Bake in preheated oven until beginning to dry, about 15 minutes for slightly chewy granola bars, a few minutes more if you like them crunchy. (Note: they will seem under done/super soft and chewy when hot.) Cool completely before cutting.

My first experience with Caramel Matcha Green Tea

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

WAHMReviewer – Mary Madalene Yaroscavitch

I can honestly tell you that I have not tried Matcha Tea before this review.

Matcha is premium green tea powder from Japan used for drinking as tea or as an ingredient in recipes. While other green teas are grown throughout the world, matcha is unique to Japan. It is the heart of the Japanese way of tea and has been celebrated in the traditional Japanese tea ceremony for hundreds of years.

Match Tea WAHMReview

Chlorophyll and amino acids give matcha its unique rich taste, an initial vegetal, astringent taste, followed by a lingering sweetness. Matcha made in the traditional Japanese style, whisked with water, is a full-bodied green tea. The intensity of the experience compares to one’s first taste of dark chocolate or red wine. When added as an ingredient, the taste of matcha becomes subtler. It adds the flavor and color of green tea to your creation, be it a smoothie, latte, savory sauce or pastry.

Matcha is renowned for numerous health benefits. It is rich in nutrients, antioxidants, fiber and chlorophyll. It is sugar-free, an ideal drink for diabetics and others wishing to reduce their sugar intake. The health benefits of matcha exceed those of other green teas because matcha drinkers ingest the whole leaf, not just the brewed water. One glass of matcha is the equivalent of 10 glasses of green tea in terms of nutritional value and antioxidant content.

The company offers special size 10g of naturally flavored green tea powder ($10 value). Enough to make 5 drinks.

Advocare with Jamie Dixon

WAHMReviewer – Cecily Butler

I received these products for free to base this review on. All thoughts and written words are my own.
Several months ago my friend Jamie mentioned she and her hubby were doing something called a 24 day challenge with the company called Advocare. I had heard of it before from an online friend, but did not really know anything about it.

Advocare Jamie Dixon WAHMReview 1

So I listened to Jamie talk about how she was not sure how much weight or inches she’d lost, but her clothes were fitting better. How she had gone from needing several cups of coffee to get thru the day to just one. I also started observing her. She acted like she had more energy and she was looking great. We see each other often and I could still tell by the way her clothes fit that something was working.

Advocare Jamie Dixon WAHMReview 234

So….I bit the bullet and decided to try a 24 day challenge myself. I must admit the first 10 days with the herbal cleanse day were hard, but not because I was hungry all the time or felt wiped out, but because the herbal cleanse fiber drink is kinda icky, but then I figured out to mix it with a little OJ and chug it and it wasn’t half bad.

I noticed a change in my energy level right away. I had gone from feeling like I would fall over if I didn’t take a nap every single day to being very productive and actually getting things done! Spark is the name of the energy drink they offer and it’s amazing.

I was blown away with the food plan and all I could eat. I wasn’t missing out on anything. I’ll be completely honest with you, I am a CHEATER! I cheat on every single diet/food plan or whatever, I just do. It’s who I am I guess….so yes I cheated with this too, BUT- and this is a HUGE one….my butt was getting smaller. I was losing weight and inches. I am already down a pants size (and the new pants size is already loose) I’m not sure exactly how many inches I’ve lost but I’m down nearly 10lbs.

This company’s products are even used by professional athletes, such as Drew Breeze and Olympic Athletes. Even one of my favorite authors and all around great guys Dr. Kevin Leman uses Advocare. I was even so impressed that I decided to become a distributor. I knew I had Jamie right there to help me along the way. Any questions I had or still do have, she could answer or get the answer for me. There’s a great support system with Advocare thru other members and multiple Facebook pages and groups.

The Natural Choice Apothecary #skincare #Natural

WAHM Reviewer – Kristina Mumma

Disclaimer: I received the products detailed below to facilitate my review. No other compensation was received. All opinions expressed are my own.

natural choice apothecary

The Natural Choice Apothecary can be found on Etsy providing “all your Natural Apothecary needs from salves, scrubs, lotions, lip balm, calming aids, and even natural candles to create the perfect bath and body get away while staying natural and organic!” In addition to their Etsy shop, they can be found on Facebook as well as a facebook VIP group where you can participate in promotional events, get sneak peeks at new products and even be first to try them!

The Natural Choice Apothecary

One of the reasons I was most excited to complete this review was because of the products being of a holistic nature.  As a holistic health practitioner and advocate for holistic remedies, reviewing natural health/home products is of utmost interest.  Also because of my background, I tend to scrutinize products that purport to be “natural”, “organic”, “healing.” With The Natural Choice Apothecary any skepticism was quickly appeased as Carolyn, the owner, is an educated herbalist and creates wonderful natural products with quality ingredients!   (and I am admittedly picky when it comes to this genre! J)

So what exactly did I review? 1 full size tin of Sleepy Balm, 1 tube of Herbal infused Lip Butter and 1 sample pot of All Purpose Herbal Balm.

Natural Choice Apothecary group

Another new favorite of mine is the Herbal Infused Lip Butter.  I admit I was skeptical of this item.  I’m not a huge fan of most lip products- often they are too oily/greasy or too waxy.  I also am not a fan of the artificially “flavored” lip products. That said, I LOVED this Lip Butter!  It was smooth, subtly scented and just the right amount of moisture for my lips!  This items is made with: Olive Oil, Organic Calendula Flowers, Organic Plantain Leaves, Organic Lavender Flowers, Organic Lavender Buds, Organic Echinacea Angustifolia Flowers, Organic Echinacea Angustifolia Root, Organic Cocoa Butter, Unbleached Beeswax, Vitamin E Oil, Lavender Essential Oil, Tea Tree Essential Oil.  I have a feeling that I’ll be ordering a few extras soon because my 11 year old daughter seems to have taken a liking to this product as well!

Herbal Infused Lip Butter

The third product I reviewed was a sample of All Purpose Herbal Balm…I absolutely LOVE this product!  When I first received it I used it on a small patch of eczema that I had on my face.  It was soothing and my eczema seemed to clear up in just one day!  My true appreciation of this product, though was today.  My daughter fell off a motorized scooter (the kind you stand on NOT the kind you ride on!) and skinned her knees and broke her elbow.  Her elbow was scraped and bleeding as well as swollen.  You can imagine the tears and pain.  After cleaning her wounds I applied the herbal balm.  It was light, went on smoothly and actually soothed the scraped areas.  My daughter was afraid that anything I put on her boo boo would burn but this was 100% pain free…plus it meets my standards!  This Herbal Balm is made with organic olive oil infused with organic calendula flowers (super healing ingredient!), organic plantain, organic lavender buds, organic Echinacea Angustifolia, organic coconut oil, beeswax, tea tree oil, lavender oil and vitamin E oil.  In addition to how I used this Healing Balm, according to the product page it can be applied to small cuts, scrapes, bruises, sunburn, diaper rash, chapped skin & lips, severe cracked skin, Eczema, Psoriasis, external yeast infections and vulvular irritation.

all purpose herbal balm

Over all I found The Natural Choice Apothecary to be a fabulous resource for natural apothecary products.  The packaging is cute, ingredients are clearly detailed and each product page in the etsy shop lists product uses.  You can purchase these products as well as others online at, follow on the FaceBook  fan page, join the FaceBook VIP group or Follow on Twitter. The Natural Choice Apothecary is sure to become one of my favorite resources…I highly recommend trying out a product or two – I’d be surprised if you didn’t love it like me!

Thrive by Le-vel with Lauren Lewis

I’ve done other product reviews for Lauren before. I super excited when she asked me to do a review for the new product she’s been using. She asked if I had ever tried Thrive, by Le-vel before. I had heard of it off and on in the direct sales circles I’m in but never really knew what it was. This is how she explained it to me

“(It’s a) 3 yr old company that helps fill in gaps of nutrition to your body so you can be at your peak level! A lot of vitamins/antioxidants/probiotics raw fruits/veggies all coming together through capsules mix and wearable nutrition and most people within 2-3 days feel increased energy higher metabolism less stress happier mood mental clarity joint support and more!”  (You can also check out her website at )

She asked if I’d like to do a review on it and I said SURE!! I      wasn’t exactly sure what to expect, but I knew there were some  kind of patches involved. When I got the package I had two packages of pills and 2 packages of a shake and 3 patches. The instructions were easy, and within 30 mins of getting up I was done with pills for the day!! This is a big thing for me because I get busy and forget to take them…..The patches can be worn in multiple places so you can show them off or cover them up. Just make sure it’s a clean firm area like your hip, thigh, or bicep. Oh, and it stays on for 24 hours.

Lauren told me that sometimes people notice a difference the first day and some don’t notice a difference until a few days in. So I was curious how long it would take me to notice. I started my 3 day trial on a Saturday. We got up and I took my pill, drank my half a shake (which I chose to do with water b/c I’m watching calories) and put my patch on my arm. The shake wasn’t bad, probably would have been better with milk or orange juice, but it was such a small amount that it wasn’t bad with just water. Plus, it blended well and wasn’t chalky. We worked in the yard and around the house most of the morning (usually I drag thru Saturday morning). Then we spent the afternoon at the river. I was a little worried that the patch wouldn’t survive sunscreen and river water, but it did. I didn’t even have a funny pale square on my arm after being in the sun all day. I felt good all day long, no midafternoon draggy time or anything.

Sunday was church, potluck and then the lake. I ALWAYS take a nap on Sunday afternoon. But…..nope. I was a little tired (who isn’t on Sunday afternoon and especially after a potluck) and figured I would snooze on the 45 min drive to the lake. No napping for me. I wasn’t even tired at all by the time we got the boat loaded. This time I put the patch on the upper back part of my hip. It survived too.

Monday was 2 pills instead of one. I put the Thrive patch on my thigh. I wore tight shorts as I had a kettlebell class that morning. The patch survived kettlebell. I was soaked with sweat by the time I was done with that class. I then came home, worked around the house and yard with my kids. Decided to run a mile (I don’t run…..ok, I’m starting to run, but I don’t really like it.) Spent the afternoon folding laundry and working around the house, even cleaned the kids’ rooms with them. Then, that evening I talked my hubby into a mile plus long walk…… Yes, he asked who I was and what I had done to his wife.

thrive thigh

Tuesday, my first day without Thrive…..went to cycle class, came home worked around the house, took the kids to swimming lessons, came home made lunch….crashed and took a 2 hour nap!

Thrive Shakes

I must admit, I was skeptical at first, but it worked. I had amazing energy. Like crazy amazing. One of the things I like about this company is the products are 98% natural. Plus even though the price tag might seem hefty to some, there is a way to get it free….I’m really going to work on that!!

Oh- and while it has nothing to do with the performance of the product but to me it’s important!! He he. The patches come in several designs and colors. So if you want to wear them where others can see them, you can be cute and stylish too!!

If you want to learn more about Thrive and about how you can get a 3 day sample and try it for yourself contact Lauren at and remember to check out her website at

Drinking with ease with Faucet Face

WAHMRevwier – Melissa McClure

Let me tell you, everything tastes better in a glass bottle. Why did they change to plastic? Plastic is cheaper and costs the company less money to make. Did you know that plastic has been known to leak chemicals into the liquid that it holds? It also fills landfills. Different water bottling companies have created these amazing commercials for their products and let’s face it; American’s are addicted to drinking bottled water. These water bottles then fill up our landfills and cause pollution and other harmful substances that hurt our environment.

Faucet Face WAHMReview

Faucet Face has created a water bottle that is made of glass. When glass is used there is no nasty chemicals that get leaked into the water, its reusable and saves you money instead of purchasing cases upon cases of water.

I am an avid fitness person. In the mornings before I get ready for work I run and currently have been doing Focus T25. I admit I have fallen prey to the addition of bottled water, it’s just so convenient. But when I got the chance to do a review for a glass water bottle I was all over it. My family and I recycle, reduce, and reuse many items so my bottled water addiction didn’t make me feel so bad but I knew I needed to change. This review came at the perfect time as I was currently looking for a replacement for my water drinking habits.

When my box came that was labeled Faucet Face I was like a little kid on Christmas morning. I opened the box and was automatically taken away with this bottle. I couldn’t believe how thick this glass was! That was one of the areas of concern that I was worried about…what if I dropped this bottle? Is it going to shatter on me? Of course my son (who is 3 years old) loves to get mail and presents too so he helped me open the box and that was literally the first thing that happened….he accidently dropped it on the floor. Solid. Absolutely nothing happen, and it didn’t even scratch the lettering on the bottle that reads, “Tap is Terrific.”

Faucet Face Bottom WAHMReview

Faucet Face has three different bottles to choose from and I was able to pick which one I wanted. My favorite color is blue so of course I picked the blue lettering bottle. The other two were absolutely awesome looking as well, one was green that says “Hose Water” and the other one had beautiful humming birds on them. A hard choice but I got it done.

Faucet Face 100 Liters of Clean water WAHMReview

Inside the bottle is a tiny slip of paper and it states, “Each bottle you buy will provide a minimum 100 liters of clean water for a family in rural India.” How amazing is this company? People in India are dying due to being forced to drink contaminated water full of parasites, worms, and other horrid, toxic organisms.

Faucet Face believes in BioSand Filters to help the people of India. BioSand Filters are a simple filter made of concrete. This concrete holds several layers of sand that traps and contains sediments, pathogens, and other impurities in the water. To build a BioSand Filter costs very little and requires no money to use. These filters eliminate 90-95% of impurities in the water. That is a great percentage! Faucet Face’s non-profit partners, TMA, employ local Indian people to build these filters and distribute them to their neighbors that are in need.

When a person buys between 1 and 4 bottles a portion of the sales will be combined with other customer’s purchases to make these filters. When 5 bottles are purchased one whole filter can be made. Wow! How generous is that?

So….is Faucet Face all it’s cracked up to be?

Faucet Face taste test WAHMReview

I washed and filled my bottle up with icy cold water and put the bottle to the taste test. Amazing. It was cold and refreshing. The water in the bottle did not taste at all anything like the plastic bottled water. It was crisp and had zero aftertaste. Yummy!

This product is truly changing my way of consuming water. I will never buy a case of water again! Go over to Faucet Face’s website and check out their bottles and read more about the BioSand filters. Also make sure to head on over to there facebook page as well!

I received these products for free to base this review on. All opinions are honest and mine alone.

Pathways to Happiness

WAHM Reviewer ~ Laura Heinle

Pathways to Happiness is owned and run by Emily Young. She offers a variety of different types of sessions to help you on your pathway to happiness. Sessions include: The Emotion Code, The Body Code, The Balance Procedure, Angel Card Readings, Law of Attraction, Quantum Touch, and Meditation. Each one is described in more detail on her site HERE

energy healing session.

I was selected to receive an Emotion Code session from Emily. We did this via facebook chat, which worked out perfectly for me as it could be done in real time, but I didn’t have to worry about my kids being noisy in the background. It only took about 30 minutes from start to finish.
Emily was very in depth and spot on with a lot of her readings. I have never had this type of reading and did not know what to expect at all. I was pleasantly surprised. Throughout the reading, she would list an emotion that was blocking my path and at what age it started. Then she would go through her process of releasing that block. In all, she listed and cleared 9 emotions for me. I really did feel more at ease once she was done. It was almost like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders.
I highly recommend contacting Emily if you feel blocked in any way. She definitely has a gift and knows how to use it.
For the rest of January, she is holding a half off sale on all of her sessions. Be sure to book a session with her before that is up! It’s a great deal and you’ll definitely be getting your money’s worth.
You can find Pathways to Happiness at and on Facebook at
